Ann Elizabeth Winstel Morrow

December 19, 1920 — April 9, 2006

ANN ELIZABETH WINSTEL MORROW Memorial services for Cortez resident Ann Elizabeth Winstel Morrow will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12 at the Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church. Reverends Kim Nofel and Erika Meyer will officiate. A visitation has been scheduled for Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. to noon at the Ertel Memorial Chapel. Ann was born December 19, 1920 in Denison, Tex. to Ernest Robert and “Jackie” Winstel. She passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2006 at the Mercy Medical Center in Durango at the age of 85. She was raised in Port Arthur, Tex. She attended North Texas State Teachers’ College in Denton and after graduation she returned to Port Arthur to teach second grade for two years. She then married the love of her life, Philip Morrow. They lived in Port Arthur for several years and their daughter Jackie was born there. They then moved to Laurel, Mont., where Philip was a petroleum engineer and Ann was a homemaker. Philip was recalled to active Air Force duty in Alaska, so Ann and Jackie returned to Port Arthur for a year. In 1952, son Philip Guy Morrow II was born and the Morrows returned to Laurel where they lived in their home until 2001. They moved to Cortez in 2003 to be nearer their daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Aryol Brumley. On March 28 of this year, Ann and Philip celebrated their 60 wedding anniversary with their children. Ann’s greatest joys in life came from her love of her family, from her church activities, and from her flower gardens. She placed her husband and children, their spouses, and her grandchildren/great-grandchildren above all else. She was active in the Order of Eastern Star, was Mother Advisor to her local Rainbow Girls Assembly, and was one of the “charter” members of her beloved St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Laurel. She served long and well in all aspects of the life of that church. Ann was a voracious reader, enjoying many genres of literature, especially “intrigue” novels which she shared with Aryol. She was elected Woman of the Year by her Laurel Federated Women’s Club. Ann is survived by her beloved husband, Philip of Cortez; her daughter, Jackie Brumley and husband, Aryol also of Cortez; her son, Philip Guy Morrow and wife, Kathy of Cheyenne, Wyo.; her granddaughters, Michelle Butler of McKinney, Tex., Sara Perry and husband, Todd of Allen, Tex., Ann Marie Morrow of Centennial, Colo., Kristen Morrow and Laura Morrow, both of Cheyenne, Wyo.; four great-grandchildren; and her younger brother, Jack Morrow and wife, Deanie of Richardson, Tex. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Jackie; and by an elder brother, Ernest. Ann was greatly loved and will be missed by her family and friends.
