Obituary

RAYMOND GERALD "RAY" HARRIMAN

A celebration of life for Ray Harriman will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 16 at Panther Stadium west of Cortez Middle School in Cortez.
The man who often described himself as "a teacher who learns more from my students than they ever learn from me" Raymond Gerald "Ray" Harriman was chosen to join the heavens with the historians he often taught about. He passed Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the age of 61 after spending his time Mountain biking on his favorite Boggy Draw trail with his loved golden doodle. He spent 39 years here in the Southwest dedicating his life to understanding the culture through his work as a crew chief on the Dolores Archeological Project and continued working for many of the companies in the area sharpening his craft. He will be remembered by many as a loving husband, father, brother, son, coach and educator who was often described as an energetic, encouraging and compassionate man who was known to many as a "father figure" around the community.

Ray was born March 24, 1956 in Pueblo, Colo. the son of Raymond Fletcher and Geraldine Louise (Zgut) Harriman. Ray is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Harriman of Cortez; his son, Kyle Harriman of Denver; his parents, Raymond and Gerry Harriman of Walsenburg, Colo.; and by his siblings, Joanna Payne (Carl) of Pueblo West, Colo., David Harriman (Josie) of Walsenburg, Colo., and Eric Harriman (Margo) of Pueblo West, Colo.
